Camping on the South West Coast Path
Camping will save you money on the trail, sometimes quite a bit! Hostels cost £15-20 per night and hotels about double that. Camping should cost about £5-10 per night. You can get a nice warm shower and often somewhere to prepare and cook a meal and wash up.
The down side of camping is the extra weight of Tent, sleeping bag, mat and cooking kit. This can really slow you down and eat into your moral, especially on the hillier sections. Please read our section on camping kit for more information.
Free camping is not permitted along the path but quite a few still do it. If you get caught out then try to get permission from land owners before setting up. set up as late possible and leave first thing in the morning and leave no trace that you were ever there.
