Walking boots

A good pair of walking boots can make the difference between an enjoyable day out and a living nightmare. The current trend is for lightweight boots but if you have a comfy pair of winter boots which you are familiar with then by all means use them. Breatheable boots are recommended

Waterproof layer

It is essential to have a top layer you can rely on to keep you dry and out of the wind. The weather can change very quickly on the coast path making you very exposed to the elements. I recommend spending that bit extra and getting a breathable jacket. Never forget to bring a pair of waterproof trousers. Not wearing them in severe conditions means water will run down your legs straight into your boots

Base Layer

This is the layer that is in contact with your skin. It should keep you warm but also be able to wick moister away. They cn be made of synthetic materials, but I prefer the merino wool ones.
